ActionScript Syntax (for Flash)

ActionScript is a scripting language developed by Macromedia (now acquired by Adobe) for its Flash products. Initially a simple scripting language, the latest version 3.0 is a fully object-oriented programming language with powerful features, a rich library, and a syntax similar to JavaScript. It is commonly used for interactive, entertaining, and practical development in Flash, web design, and RIA application development.

ActionScript is an ECMAScript-based scripting language used to write Adobe Flash animations and applications. Since both ActionScript and JavaScript are based on ECMAScript syntax, they can theoretically be smoothly translated from one language to another. However, the Document Object Model (DOM) of JavaScript is focused on the browser window, document, and forms, while the Document Object Model (DOM) of ActionScript is primarily centered on SWF format animations, which can include animations, audio, text, and event handling.
