Perl Syntax (Practical Extraction and Report Language)

Perl is a high-level, general-purpose, interpreted, dynamic programming language. The initial designer, Larry Wall, developed it to facilitate report processing on UNIX, and it was released on December 18, 1987.

Perl borrows features from C, sed, awk, shell scripts, and many other programming languages. Among its most important features is its built-in support for regular expressions and the extensive third-party code library CPAN. Larry Wall has also developed Perl 6 as a successor to Perl; however, the syntax of Perl 6 has undergone many changes, which is why Perl 6 is viewed as a different language within the Perl family.
